The Bombshelter Pub, known as the Bomber for short, is the University of Waterloo’s own pub. It is located in the SLC, directly across from the Turnkey Desk, in the heart of the campus.
The Bomber is run by the student union organization known as the Feds. There are four University of Waterloo graduates who manage the pub, one of whom we were lucky enough to talk to about the pub; his name was Cedric. The rest of the staff are University of Waterloo students. Cedric said they like to keep everything in the family. The pub is run by students, for the students.
However, it’s a great pub to go to even if you’re not a Waterloo student. The warm, friendly atmosphere makes it welcome to anyone. That said, we should mention that on nights which are meant for students during the year, non-students need to enter with a card-carrying University of Waterloo student.
The convenient location makes them a popular spot for bar nights and great spot to grab a bite to eat. The Bomber also has its own outdoor patio which is open in the summer. Due to it’s convenient location it also boasts the warmest indoor lineup in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.
The Bomber has a capacity of 375 people. It has a casual, relaxed environment. They are open Monday to Friday from 10am and are closed on Saturday and Sunday. In the summer months when there are less students on campus, they are open Monday to Friday from 11am until 3pm.
The food at the Bomber is not only delicious, it is offered to students at extremely affordable prices. When talking to Cedric, he told us that they try their very hardest to deliver quality food at cheap prices. “What we’re trying to do is break even,” he said, meaning that profit is not their top priority. “We sell beer at almost a loss, we sell steak at almost a loss.” The main goal is to offer a safe and fun pub for students to hang out and enjoy a drink and a good meal. “No one wants to eat Campus Pizza everyday,” Cedric joked.
But it’s true; as a group, students don’t usually have a lot disposable income, and often students can’t afford the luxury of eating well, or eating quality food. At the Bombshelter, students can indulge in a delicious meal from an enticing menu that includes all-day breakfast, burgers, salads, pastas, gourmet pizzas, sandwiches and more.
The Bomber offers a variety of specials and deals on drinks and food throughout the week. One of the most popular specials is the “early-bird” breakfast special, which is served between 10am and 11am and includes two eggs, homefries, toast and a choice of bacon or sausage, all for only $3.99! After 11am it becomes $5.99 and is served all day (because not everyone is an early bird).
In the warmer months, the outdoor patio is opened and students can dine outside, and on Bomber Wednesday they can be found dancing outside once the party really gets going. The patio itself provides plenty of room, however it can get packed on a busy night.

In addition, First Bomber and Last Bomber are two of the most popular events of the year; they are a beginning of the year party and an end of the year party, respectively. Wait times for these events can last as long as 4 to 6 hours.
Another popular event at the Bomber is Sex Toy Bingo, an event where you actually play bingo for sex toys. They have also hosted some paint nights for anyone that enjoys painting.
The Bomber is also open during festivals such as St. Patty’s and have many specials that attract a large crowd.
The Bomber also hosts info sessions with employers. The Bomber is free to book by any Feds clubs and societies. It is also available for bookings by anyone else for a fee of $275. Cedric was telling us that many small startups have been booking the space recently, which they are very pleased about.
The Bomber is a popular stop for anyone in the Waterloo region. They have a wide range of food and drinks, host multiple special events and are very affordable. It’s a great spot for anyone looking for a new place to hang out.
